Will and I have made it a tradition (2 years officially makes it a tradition…right? 😉 ) to take a trip every year for our anniversary. Last year we went on a glorious cruise to the Bahamas, and this year we knew we wanted to keep it a bit more local and laid back. We were really feelin’ the idea of a road trip—so we picked a destination, a date, an Airbnb and called it a day. Savannah, Georgia it was!
Savannah has been on our bucket list of places to visit for several years now. Considering that it is only a four-hour drive from Orlando, I’m ashamed that it took us so long to crack down and make it a trip! Seriously, this is something that we could have pulled off in a weekend!
We stayed in an Airbnb that was a 10 minute drive from downtown historic Savannah. Boy oh boy, this place was GORGEOUS! The house was built in the 1890’s and the current owner had it styled for that time period. From the fireplaces in every room to the claw-foot bathtubs, this home had a bright and airy feel that had us smitten.
We loved that there were other guests staying in the home at the same time as us. We made new friends in the kitchen each morning over breakfast!
As for historic downtown Savannah itself, we were SO in love! It reminded us very much of Charleston, SC, another beautiful city full of history. We found a deal on Groupon for Belle Walking Tours which we would TOTALLY recommend. When Will and I walk around in new cities aimlessly, we tend to make up our own stories 🙂 . Our tour guide Michelle was very knowledgeable and did a great job making the tour lively and entertaining.
It caught me off guard that there are so many historic figures buried throughout the city! Creeeepppyyy!! We had a great time exploring, walking from square to square and enjoying some small town coffee shop vibes.
Leading to the stairs of DEATH!
Oh, but our FAVORITE stop of the whole trip?? The Paula Deen Restaurant!!! (AKA Lady and Sons) We even got a picture with Paula herself 😉
(Note the puppy on the TV in the background. Even the restaurant knew we were missing Popcorn back home </3 )
The food was GREAT. I honestly wasn’t expecting much because it’s a southern style buffet, which (to me) doesn’t sound promising in terms of quality. But lo and behold– Paula proved me wrong! Everything I put on my plate was fantastic, especially the southern collard greens. I could eat collard greens for DAYS. My plate was this x2!
And Will’s plate was this x748538793 😉
We also ate at B&D Burgers on our second night there, which didn’t let us down either. I have two standards for burger joints: 1) that they have turkey burgers, which I prefer to beef.. and 2) that they have sweet potato fries, which are pretty much my favorite food. B&D Burgers had BOTH! Win win!!
My Moon River bunless turkey burger, house salad and sweet potato fries in the back–
And Will’s Colonial burger with curly fries–
Overall, we had one heck of a second anniversary trip. Our ideal trips involve lots of conversation, new environments, good food, great coffee 😉 and smooches. Oh yes, can’t forget the smooches! (Sorry for the PDA, but can you blame me!? He’s a hunk!!)
Here’s to many more anniversary trips together!
Have you ever been to Savannah? What has been your favorite vacation?
