Will and I were completely torn between a cruise or an all-inclusive resort for our honeymoon. After months of going back and forth, we finally reasoned that we could see ourselves splurging on a cruise in the near future, but not necessarily an all-inclusive vacation. So an all-inclusive it was!
We stayed at the adults-only Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for seven nights, and it was like living in a dream!
Well.. until we got SICK that is……
We were very aware of the fact that we weren’t supposed to drink the tap water while visiting the DR, but what we didn’t connect was that the lettuce and uncooked veggies would be washed in that same water too. DUH!! Because of our judgment lapse, Will and I both ended up with upset stomachs and many-a-trips to the bathroom for days 3 and 4 of our trip. Talk about a way to jump right into the nitty gritty of marriage! 😀
Once we learned to start sticking to mostly the fried starchy foods (aka hamburgers and french fries), we were a-okay. And we still did manage to have a blast, sick tummies and all!
(With Fausto, the best guest services staff member 🙂 )
Our room was also worth mentioning!
We had a king bedroom with a whirlpool tub, fully stocked mini-fridge, and walkout balcony. Like I said—definitely like living in a dream! Our maid was the sweetest and she would stop by every evening to bring us chocolates and more water bottles and fruit.
I went apple-crazy on this trip! Nothing like fresh fruit in the hot weather 🙂
But overall, our FAVORITE part of the entire trip was the excursion we went on towards the end of our stay. We took a “Flinestone Buggy Ride” through the countryside of the DR, allowing us to see the natural caves, wildlife, and homes of some of the natives.
During our buggy ride, we took a pit stop into Francesca’s home, which also serves as the main market stop for all of the locals. She treated us to freshly brewed cafecitos, and we got to tour her home and beautiful garden.
Our AMAZING tour guide, Martin from Austria 🙂
The view from Francesca’s home was breathtaking!
Next stop, the caves! The pictures really don’t do it any justice, but it was amazing to walk through something so naturally gorgeous.
(And swing through..)
“Get me down!!!”
Note for next time: Bring a mouth mask. Thank goodness for my sunglasses that doubled as eye protection!
Overall, we had such a blast on our honeymoon. Sure we did have a few lows due to the whole stomach-bug thing, but the trip in its entirety was one for the books. HOWEVER, I will say that when it comes down to it– I think that Will and I are definitely more of a cruise-loving couple. We loved that everything at the all-inclusive was free and in surplus, but the whole vibe was very lounge-eat-and-drink-all-day-long while we love to explore and try new things.
But still– a trip to remember!
