On Friday, July 18th, 2014 shortly after I had gotten out of work, Will picked me up with flowers in hand. It was a special date night, he insisted, as I had been having a rough week and needed some cheering up.
Our first stop was to the bowling alley to knock down some pins, then to Tani (our favorite Thai restaurant) to pick up an order of take-out that Will had placed earlier on. Oh, but not before stopping to take humiliating pictures in the photobooth first…
Does this guy know how to lift my spirits or what?! 😀
He explained to me that he wanted to plan a picnic for us both, but had limited time to cook up a complete meal beforehand. Hey, no complaints here! We both love Tani Thai, so we swung by the restaurant, grabbed our dinner, and headed over to a nearby park. Due to a recent rainstorm, the infamous Miami mosquitoes and bug life were at their swarming peak, and I nearly had a panic attack as Will set up the table with all of the silverware and plates he brought from home. Candlesticks included!
And boy did he sure did look cute..
A few minutes into trying to tough out the bug situation and realizing that our table was covered in ants, we decided to switch to another picnic table and re-do our set-up all over again. Poor Will looked nervous the whole time now that I look back on it all! We moved to a table that was covered in even MORE bugs, and decided to make do with the first table and move back to where we started. The whole time Will was keeping his eye on the parking lot. I should’ve known he was up to something!
(How convenient that I just HAPPENED to take all these pictures on the day that he proposed, right!? I promise I had no clue what was coming!)
We settled back at the first table, opened up our food packages, and within seconds all sorts of creepy bug-life appeared. It was at the moment that I found a mini green caterpillar crawling up my arm that I nervously asked Will if we could take the food to another location to eat. I felt so bad because he had worked so hard creating such a beautiful set-up, but he agreed that we should leave as long as he could first show me what he brought for dessert.
It was at that moment that he came around the table to show me the plate of chocolate-covered strawberries he had brought for the occasion. As I oo-ed and aa-ed over him going out of his way to buy my favorite dessert, he informed me that the chocolatier apparently had included a card they wanted me to read. The next thing I knew he was holding up a heart-shaped note that read “Will you marry me?” and kneeling down on one knee.
And I died.
Will continued on to tell me that he would be blessed to share the rest of his life with me and asked me to be his wife. After a few moments of complete silence, of course I responded with a resounding YES!!
It took me a few moments to even realize what was happening. After 3 and half years of dating this man who had been telling me from the start that he wanted to marry me, this proposal had been a LONG time coming. I was beginning to believe that it would never happen! It’s amazing though how God’s hand was working through it all. From the timing of the engagement, to the way he was able to afford the beautiful ring, EVERYTHING fell into place prayerfully and perfectly.
And luckily we had Will’s friend Albert who had shown up for the occasion just to take pictures!
And here’s to many many more years of doing life alongside my best friend.
